Kelly Phillips Horehound succeed in breathing life into the doom/stoner genre. The almost jazz-inspired drumming, and the muscular riffage that leaves you in awe of the fact that they only have one guitarist, are the signature of their sound. Shy's voice is ethereal and haunting, and the thick layers of sound are something I immensely appreciate from all four members. Grooves and riffs for days. Horehound has one of the most well-developed sounds in modern doom, and you should give them a listen! Favorite track: L'appel du Vide.

The Kind 08:51
Rise – We take and give nothing Rise – Keep taking, give nothing So long as you get what you need I say you are all thieving Rise – Is that what you like Rise – Is that OK? Just take and take and take Until there is nothing Rise – Your truths are open Rise – Your lies are our pain It’s now the time to give Let’s be the better man. Rise The Kind will rise

Dier's Dirge 07:50
Dull and shallow we embrace The time we have left in this place We have come and gone And we’ve done it wrong Marching to the gallows’ grace What we’ve become, can’t be undone What we’ve destroyed, can’t be undone There is something we have lost in this all We’ve lost who we are One foot in the grave You regret to find you’ve been a slave So afraid to give, afraid to live Fearing left alone in the dull and shallow What we’ve become, can’t be undone What we’ve destroyed, can’t be undone There is something we have lost in this all We’ve lost who we are Take the sea, open to me Take the stars, take us to mars Take the sea, open to me

Drifting, floating, into the sea We are broken, we’ve been grinded Down to our knees Can you feel my touch from here? A reach across the hemisphere There is nothing left here Dead is the Earth I don’t know what it is you fear We’ve been dead since our birth My energy hurls into your atmosphere In the direction of chaos Hold the sea, above me head Carry the girl, kiss the dead There is nothing left here Dead is the Earth I don’t know what it is you fear We’ve been dead since our birth
4.
The Sloth 06:44
What have you done here You’ve lost your obligation Your empathy has run dry Have you any pride? that which does not Simply entertain you The damage unfolds now You force me to thrive Twelve numbers cannot Represent all of time Our lives are a thousand lives I am what you fear now You are just a martyr Lost in the hope of All of what you deny Come a little closer I am sitting in the corner Waiting for the children Waiting to eat their souls Twelve numbers cannot Represent all of time Our lives are a thousand lives Within moments of your breath As the(tear of a) wink of an old man dries You have poisoned over Thirty years of air Let go of your toxins You are now hollow And from my corner I take back all the air
5.
Anastatica 07:03
There is a place right here that you touch So deep, so down, into my mine Can’t come to close to my thoughts Can’t let you close to this mind It’s a place right here you must seek So hard, so slow, buried in me Can’t let you into this heart Won’t let you close, not this time
6.
Highball 06:57
Lift your head from The tracks dear son The train has come Your Train has come Thought you might lose Let go you choose No pain, no dues You’ve not yet paid. You can’t see me You don’t know me Yet I know you You are weak, untrue

about

Horehound Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania

Pittsburgh’s Horehound distills a potent blend of snarling riffs, morose melodies, and rhythmic intricacy that owes equally to doom metal convention and goth/dark ambient atmosphere. Over the course of several releases, the band has established themselves as mainstays in the post metal universe with their sludge-filled riffage and diverse vocals. ... more
